For millions of years, mankind lived just like the animals. Then something happened which unleashed the power of our imagination. We learned to talk and we learned to listen. Speech has allowed the communication of ideas, enabling human beings to work together to build the impossible. Mankind’s greatest achievements have come about by talking, and its greatest failures by not talking. It doesn’t have to be like this. Our greatest hopes could become reality in the future. With the technology at our disposal, the possibilities are unbounded. All we need to do is make sure we keep talking.
Stephen Hawking
Verbal and written communication is one of the characteristics that distinguish humans from animals (another fundamental difference is the use of medicines, but we’ll leave that for another time…). Without communication, our feelings, experiences, and knowledge die with us, rendering them useless; holding on to all of this for ourselves is selfish. We know what we know because someone shared their knowledge with us, through school, books, and nowadays, blogs and videos, dedicating time to think, write, and make their ideas transmissible to others.
Without communication, civilisation does not progress, problems remain unsolved, and we feel alone and lost. However, through communication, we feel connected to others, learn from each other’s experiences, empathy is strengthened, and distances are shortened: different people feel like part of one team, one community. Together, we are stronger than alone. Ideas are shared, and thanks to different points of view, better ideas emerge.
This is why I’m starting another (but not limited to) IT blog.
My experience is unique compared to others, and I’ve undertaken studies in different ways and fields. This makes my perspective unique.
It’s time for me to write down my thoughts, experiences, and readings. I’m sure someone out there will find it useful. I will do my best to keep this blog as up-to-date as possible, considering the limited time I have, balancing work, passion, and family life.
Keep reading! I’ll keep writing!
